Andronymphs series - 2022 edition
The Andronymph series is a ongoing project of mask making. Through the years, these personas have been developped in a way to explore the limits of corporeality. They do no conform or correspond to any specific culture nor religion, rather invite to create narratives that are so personal that they seem completely unique.
The project originated more with a body positive approach. The masks were made only for a certain person, and were never worn by someone else. The project started by encounters with strangers, as a space to imagine my first impression of them. From these encounters, a primal and parallel version of them was developped within the artists, who then constructed the masks.
These models were selected specifically because they had body issues, and weren't used to a camera, nor to be seen. The mask played the role of a catalyst for self acceptance. As they were masked, the wearers became more connected within themselves and started incarnating these masks.
