Bloom, plastic sculpture.
"Bloom" is wearable sculpture that explores the proprioceptive qualities of being underwater. More precisely, it is about the moment you stop holding your breath to reach the surface. Holding your breath is a behavior that can be observed as a response mechanism to distress.
It can feel as the vacuum of space ; spreading the last bits of air in your lungs into the universe. The pressure felt underwater reminds the pre-natal matrix in which we were all floating in and provides a sense of peculiar comfort.
The proprioceptive experience of being underwater is also often used to describe difficult experiences ; keeping our heads out of water, drowning. Plunging our heads in bathtubs to shut off from the universe, just for a sacred minute. "Bloom" was made with recycled plastic, melted and sculpted in boiling water. It was photographed underwater to reveal its floating qualities.
