The Balsamic Powers of Infinite Calm, 2026
This installation questions the limits of the securitized body, and the possibility of an inner refuge in the face of the contemporary world’s fascist political drift.
In a time marked by somatic precarity, I would like to propose softness, permeability, and shared interiority.
Neither narrative nor characters inhabit the piece : only a body extended to the scale of the space, at once shelter, membrane, and organism. Here, the body is not defined by its appearance or by the social norms that constrain it; it is experienced as a somatic drift, a somatopolitical crossing where the body becomes a territory of emancipation.
The work approaches calm not as tranquillity but as a morphogenetic force in which forms exist only through movement. It was entirely made with paper mâche and paint.
The Balsamic Powers of Infinite Calm proposes a retreat where matter itself becomes refuge, breath, and an act of resistance.
Here, retreating does not mean isolating oneself but creating a living and sensorial territory where freedom emerges from within. This artwork was inspired by the quote “the balsamic powers of infinite calm” from Bachelard’s book “Poetics of Space”.
